Branch Line Society - The Gosh Ness Monster

The Gosh Ness Monster Friday 22nd May 2026 to Sunday 24th May 2026 Take a Hastings DEMU to Scotland?... it will never happen, they said! Well, with thanks to GBRf and Hastings Diesels Limited (HDL), we are pleased to present this exciting opportunity to travel on the Hastings DEMU on an exploration from the Southern extremities of Tonbridge, all the way to Inverness, and back again! A first-time visit of a Hastings DEMU unit to Scotland... it's going to be an experience that will stay with you forever. And in true BLS Style, we will be covering a number of loops and items of rare track, which we are sure a Hastings unit has never frequented before. The Hastings DEMUs are from a class of 23 diesel-electric trains built in the late 1950s to replace steam-hauled stock operating between London and Hastings via Tunbridge Wells. The six-coach units, incorporating diesel generators at each end, were unique in having especially narrow bodies which enabled them to pass through the unusually narrow tunnels on the Hastings line. We are very lucky to still be able to travel on one of these beautifully maintained units, after they were finally withdrawn in 1986. With a number of convenient boarding points from Tonbridge, all the way up the WCML, you are sure to be able to join us for this fantastic weekend away. We will have numerous photo stop opportunities as we head North to enable you to capture that unique and priceless photo, and make sure you wave at the numerous photographers who will be out to see this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. After our trip up the WCML, covering a number of rare and sought after loops, we expect to arrive in Edinburgh in the early evening on your first night, allowing time for some socialising with friends, or to explore this spectacular City. On Saturday, you have time for breakfast before we leave the rather unusual platform 0 at Haymarket for our scenic journey to Inverness, via the Highland Main Line. Inverness, a large city on Scotland's northeast coast, where the River Ness meets the Moray Firth, is the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands, and, of course, the home of the Loch Ness Monster! You will have a couple of hours' break here to enjoy the crisp, clear Scottish air and maybe a meal and drink in one of the many local restaurants and pubs near the station. We leave Inverness around 15.00, heading for Haymarket, but this time via Elgin, Keith and Aberdeen, before heading south along the spectacular coastline, finally crossing both the Tay and Forth Bridges, arriving back into Haymarket for more time at leisure in Edinburgh. Sunday is of course our day to head home, but again, you will have time for breakfast before joining us at Edinburgh Waverley this time for our run via the WCML, crossing London via Kensington Olympia and finally arriving at Tonbridge in the late evening. As you would expect, and to keep out of the way of a significant number of faster services, we will cover a number of rare loops and crossovers on our route south. We are working in partnership with the fantastic team at HDL, who will provide their famous buffet service and souvenir sales stand. There will be a charity raffle each day supporting our amazing good cause. The Buffet car, accessible to passengers in DEMU 1013 will be open throughout for the sale of hot and cold food & drink at reasonable prices. In addition, a mini-counter service will operate from one of the van ends in DEMU 1001. Standard Plus guarantees a seat in a DMBS vehicle, so you are in prime position to hear the English Electric engine working hard! And for those of you that love a good table, convenient for your maps, snacks and well-earned refreshing drinks, we will be delighted to confirm that table seating will be allocated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. This charter will be raising funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. All times and routing are indicative until confirmed by Network Rail. Final routing and timings are usually confirmed by Network Rail five days before travel and will be enclosed with your e-ticket. UK Railtours - The West Midlands Deviator

The West Midlands Deviator Saturday 23rd May 2026 With 2026 close to yielding the maximum daylight, we are delighted to offer you an opportunity to explore the railways of the West Midlands in some depth. That's not all - included is some sought after track that is very likely to be required (Burton Wetmore Depot) and a line up of splendid English Electric heritage traction. For those wishing to maximise their mileage - the day starts early. We have opened up what otherwise would have been an empty coaching stock move to our passengers - affording you the opportunity to enjoy Romic Class 20 haulage from Derby (or East Midlands Parkway) to Bedford, where our tour proper will begin. Our return journey to East Midlands Parkway will be behind a splendid Class 50 locomotive provided by the Class 50 Alliance. We deviate via Castle Donington to approach Burton on Trent from the East. We will need to cross the entire ladder at Wetmore Junction so as to gain access to Nemesis Rail Depot. Here we will negotiate at least one of the roads adjacent to the shed building and, subject to the usual operational caveats, we may receive a little traction assistance from a resident locomotive. On departure, and after further navigation of the crossovers that form Wetmore Junction, we head west passing Lichfield City and following the Sutton Coldfield line. At Aston, we are routed via the diversionary line to Stechford and on to Leamington Spa via the Kenilworth Branch. After what we hope will be a quick reversal, and with the Class 20 locomotives once again at the helm, we proceed to the historic town of Stratford upon Avon. For some, the opportunity of a two hour lunchtime break perhaps to visit one of the many public houses and restaurants will prove compelling. For others however, the opportunity to further explore the local railways will take precedence as we embark on a lunchtime mini tour to Birmingham Moor Street via Whitlocks End and back. Our second departure from Stratford upon Avon once again takes us to central Birmingham - this time New Street station and pathed routed the alternative route via Dorridge. We climb through the tunnels to the west of New Street station, invariably a test for most diesel locomotives on long passenger trains and the acoustic performance can be eagerly anticipated. We veer right at Soho South Junction so as to route us towards Bescot and Walsall where we reverse. Once again the Class 20's lead and we take the route via Darlaston Jn as far as the goods loop at Bushbury Jn, where again we reverse so as to join the Oxley Chord towards Alstom's Oxley Traincare Centre, which we pass. However, we journey only as far as Codsall. Here another reversal uses the crossover outside of the station - most uncommon for a locomotive hauled passenger train. We continue via Wolverhampton station, Bescot and Aston into Birmingham New Street allowing those who wish to do so an opportunity to alight. For those who remain, our class 50 locomotive is now employed to take us back across the Sutton Coldfield line and via Castle Donington for set down stations south as far as Bedford. UK Railtours would like to thank our operator Hanson and Hall Rail Services, the Class 50 Alliance and Romic Group for the provision of today's locomotives. We would also like to thank Nemesis Rail for the provision of Mk3 rolling stock and their invaluable contribution towards today's train. All timings are provisional and intended only as a guide. UK Railtours - The Mancunian Princess

The Mancunian Princess Friday 29th May 2026 Our train today offers a wonderfully relaxed opportunity to enjoy the 125 Group's High Speed Train on routes both familiar and less so to these iconic trains. We start the day on the delightful East Lancashire Railway where for some the opportunity to traverse the connection onto Network Rail metals will perhaps be a coup. We have another 'first' lined up later in the day though nothing about today's route is mundane. After reversing at Castleton we navigate our way around the suburbs of Manchester passing both Victoria and Piccadilly stations giving access to the West Coast Main Line that we will follow south. We follow the Trent Valley route as far as Bletchley where we deviate in order to navigate the flyover onto the recently reopened East -West line. Whilst we cannot with certainty say that this is the first HST unit to traverse the line, past opportunities to do so have certainly been few and far between. We pass through Bicester Village and onto Oxford where, in contrast to the line we have just passed over, High Speed Trains were until recently commonplace. This affords us the opportunity to reminisce as we enjoy what we hope will be a spirited run into London. After passing Hanwell, we deviate on the triangle towards Greenford thus enabling our access onto the Chiltern line. We journey north, passing Denham and High Wycombe before arrival at Princes Risborough where our train will stable overnight in anticipation of the following day's tour to Saltburn. Our sincere thanks our train operator, Hanson and Hall Rail Services, The 125 Group and The East Lancashire Railway for facilitating today's special train. UK Railtours - Teddy's Nook

Teddy's Nook Saturday 30th May 2026 Today's tour on board the 125 Group's High Speed Train takes us to some of the most attractive coastline in the country - we visit the striking sea-side town of Saltburn which boasts one of the world's oldest water powered funicular railway as well as a Grade II listed pleasure pier - the only remaining example in the North East of England. And if the beach in late Spring is not quite your thing - stay on board for an interesting mini tour as we head to Gatehead via the scenic Durham Coast. Our day begins in Princes Risborough as we depart towards London, calling at High Wycombe and, unusually, at Denham, both exceptionally well connected to the motorway network. At South Ruislip we leave the Chiltern Line and head towards the Great Western Main Line via the Greenford branch. Shortly after passing Ealing Broadway we once again deviate onto secondary lines (this time it's the West London line) as we pass over the West Coast Main Line at Willesden before arriving at the infrequently used Harringay Curve, which provides our train access onto the very familiar East Coast Main Line (ECML). We can expect our progress from this point to be much more expeditious as we head north through the home counties and into the agricultural counties of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. We expect to pass both Retford and Doncaster at speed before easing for the unmistakable sight of York station. We leave the ECML at Northallerton and head into Teeside. The landscape changes accordingly so it will perhaps be a surprise for those customers leaving the train at Saltburn that such an endearing sea-side town co-exists with some of the country's most industrial areas. Visitors will have all afternoon to enjoy the town's many seaside attractions that range from the aforementioned funicular railway, the half mile long miniature railway, the historic pier, extensive sandy beaches, a diverse range of walks as well as the usual array of hostelries and eateries to be found at a holiday destination. You might also stumble across Teddy's Nook, a historic two-story stone cottage originally built in 1862 by town founder Henry Pease MP. It has a reputation for hosting famous visitors and eccentric residents, including reports of previous tenants keeping a pet lion which they exercised on the beach. The Durham Coast Mini Tour For those wishing to explore further afield we are delighted to offer a rather extensive mini tour around the picturesque Durham coast and returning via Durham and the ECML. On leaving Saltburn we retrace our steps to Middlesborough before diverting north at Bowesfield Junction and heading towards Hartlepool. From here we enjoy frequent views across the North Sea as we head through the primarily rural landscape towards Sunderland. North of Sunderland, our train shares tracks with the metro cars of the Tyne & Wear Metro. Indeed, 2026 is the last year that the original fleet of metro cars - which date back to the 1980's - are expected to be seen in service. As we approach Newcastle, most trains pass over Robert Stephenson's High Level Bridge but our train will divert left and unusually by-pass Newcastle passing instead the former Gateshead railway depot and joining the ECML for our fast run south. We pass Tyne Yard and Duham (with superb views of the cathedral to the left) before passing through Ferryhill sidings in order to reach the goods only Stillington Branch and then once again through Stockton and Middlesborough as we retrace our steps towards Saltburn. The Journey Home We expect passengers on the mini tour to enjoy a forty-five minute break in Saltburn before our train departs for the London area. We return to Northallerton where we regain the ECML for what we hope will be a spirited run along the main line. We are routed via Copenhagen Junction, Gospel Oak, Willesden and Acton Wells before once again navigating the Greenford Branch and the Chiltern Line back to Princes Risborough, bringing to a conclusion what we hope will be a memorable spring time visit to the North East of England. Our sincere thanks our train operator, Hanson and Hall Rail Services and The 125 Group for facilitating today's special train. All timings are provisional and intended only as a guide. Branch Line Society - Lord of the Isles

Lord of the Isles Saturday 6th June 2026 to Monday 8th June 2026 The Lord of the Isles - Saturday 6th June 2026 to Monday 8th June 2026 The Branch Line Society, in partnership with the Class 50 Alliance, The Fifty Fund and GB Railfreight, are pleased to offer you this opportunity to Hoover your way up to Scotland for an exploration of numerous lines not covered regularly by loco hauled trains, never mind trains hauled by Class 50s! The British Rail Class 50 was designed to haul express passenger trains at 100 mph, and were built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows between 1967 and 1968. They were regularly found hauling express passenger trains on the then non-electrified section of the West Coast Main Line between Crewe and Scotland. The class gained the nickname "Hoovers" because of the noise made by the clean air plant at the No. 2 end, prior to refurbishment, which was likened to that of a vacuum cleaner, a name believed given to them by the staff at Paddington Station. Once the electrification from Crewe to Glasgow was completed the locomotives were moved to the Great Western Main Line (GWML) out of Paddington to allow the retirement of most of the remaining diesel-hydraulic locomotives then in use. As trains on the GWML steadily moved to High Speed Train operation from 1976, the Class 50s moved to hauling trains between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids, and also trains from London Paddington to Hereford and Worcester via Oxford until the majority of those trains too were taken over by IC125 operation. The class was steadily retired from service in the late 1980s and early 1990s as their services moved to operation by second-generation DMUs. The Fifty Fund and the Class 50 Alliance are two interrelated organisations that work together to look after six class 50 locomotives. The Alliance owns and maintains the locomotives, and The Fifty Fund supports the work of the Alliance through fund raising and promoting the locomotives' and their operation. Following the hard work started by Dave Keogh and Jonathan "Gus" Dunster, the group were able to secure 50035 as their first loco in August 1991, and the new chapter in the story of Class 50 preservation had started. And so we come to 2026, and what a few days we have in store for you. We start early on Saturday morning at the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) station in Kidderminster, where a resident SVR Class 50 will take us forward to the Reverse Point, before our double headed Class 50's will take us out onto the mainline as we start our journey to Polmont in Scotland... the long way! Our route takes us through Birmingham New Street to pick up passengers, then onwards through Stafford, Crewe and Wigan for more pick-ups, before we veer right at Lostock Hall Junction and head for the spectacular Settle & Carlisle Railway via Blackburn and Clitheroe. This most famous of lines, which crosses the remote, scenic regions of the Yorkshire Dales and the North Pennines, runs between Settle Junction, on the Leeds-Morecambe line, and Carlisle, near the English-Scottish borders. The historic line was constructed in the 1870s and has several notable tunnels and viaducts, and we are sure it will bring out the photographers to see us passing. After a further pick up and short break in Carlisle to take some precious photos of our locos, we head North via a number of rare loops before our arrival at Motherwell for our first set-down. Onwards via Mossend and Cumbernauld before we set down at Falkirk Grahamston and Polmont in the early evening to allow you to retire to your accommodation and/or the pub to reflect on an amazing day and look forward to what is to come on day 2! Sunday... Day 2... and what a day in store. With our Class 50's now in top and tail formation, our early start from Polmont takes us via Falkirk Grahamston for a pick-up, before onwards to Cowlairs East Jn/North Jn, before we head North via Dumbarton Central, Crianlarich and finally arriving in the breath-taking town of Oban. Oban is a resort town, and despite its small size, it is the largest town between Helensburgh and Fort William. During the tourist season, the town can have a temporary population of over 24,000 people. The attractive bay forms a near perfect horseshoe, protected by the island of Kerrera; and beyond Kerrera, the Isle of Mull. With a break of around 3 hours, you will have time to explore this lovely town, have a meal and drinks with friends, or if you are feeling fit, head up to McCraig's Tower, the most prominent attraction in Oban. Once back on board, we head back South to Glasgow Central High Level, via Dalmuir, Westerton, Glasgow Central Low Level, and Rutherglen West Curve. A very quick break here for a leg stretch and more photos, before we return out of Glasgow and head for Wemyss Bay via Paisley Gilmour Street. Another short break, then its onwards back to our base with set downs at Falkirk Grahamston and Polmont again. And after all the excitement of the last 2 days, it's time to head back to Kidderminster... the interesting way! After a leisurely breakfast at your accommodation, we leave Polmont and Falkirk Grahamston at a respectable time in top and tail formation, before heading for Carlisle via Larkfield Jn and Kilmarnock. A set down and 45 minute break at Carlisle, allows us to run our 2nd loco round to then double head Southbound to tackle the gradients over Shap before we set down at Wigan North Western, Crewe, Stafford and Birmingham New Street. Our final few miles takes us to Stourbridge Junction and Kidderminster for final set downs before we cover the heritage line connection onto the Severn Valley Railway and finish our epic few days away in Kidderminster SVR. As you would expect from a BLS tour, we expect to cover a number of rare and interesting bits of track over the 3 days... highlights will include: Lockerbie DPL, Beattock Summit DPL and Law DPL on day 1; Down Greenhill Branch Loop, Craigendoran WH Loop, Dumbarton Goods, Rutherglen West Curve and Dunrod Loop on Day 2, and finally Larkfield Curve, Kilmarnock Through Line, New Cumnock UGL, Thornhill UPL and Oxenholme UGL on day 3. On board we will have a buffet serving a selection of hot and cold drinks and snacks, and we will be running our very successful on board charity raffle. All profits raised from this fixture will be for the Class 50 Alliance. All times and routing are indicative until confirmed by Network Rail. Final routing and timings are usually confirmed by Network Rail five days before travel and will be enclosed with your e-ticket. Railway Touring Company - The Aberystwyth Coastal Voyager

The Aberystwyth Coastal Voyager Saturday 6 June 2026 This unusual and contrasting day excursion will take us to the Cambrian Coast resort of Aberystwyth via the Midlands and Shropshire. An added attraction will be the change of motive power at Oxley and will see our Class 37 being augmented by a Class 97, former Class 37 locomotive now fitted with ERTMS to enable the train to run on the Cambrian Line west of Shrewsbury & a Class 37, for the run over the Cambrian Railway route to Aberystwyth. Apart from the traction appeal to enthusiasts, there is much to offer in this trip, with the spectacular mid Wales scenery to savour through wide valleys and steep passes all the way. Commencing at London Euston, we will be hauled by a blue Class 86 electric locomotive northwards down the West Coast Main Line. Initially we will tackle the climb out of Euston to Camden before making our way to Watford Junction where we will call to pick up passengers. We continue through the lengthy Tring Cutting through to Milton Keynes where we pause to pick up further passengers. After picking up at Rugby, we leave the Trent Valley route and take the Birmingham line, calling at Coventry and Birmingham International. We leave Birmingham International station and follow the Grand Junction route through Bescot and on to Wolverhampton, where we are scheduled to call to pick up passengers. We now make our way to Oxley for a locomotive change. We leave Oxley with our Class 97 & 37 locomotives for our run to Aberystwyth. We will reverse our direction of travel and make our way out of Oxley as far as Sutton Bridge Junction, where we leave the main line to Hereford and join the Cambrian line. From here we will head through rural Shropshire along the single track line and enter Wales before the border town of Welshpool appears. We follow the single line through Abermule to Newtown, where after the gradients start to become severe as we head for the summit of the climb at Talerddig Summit. The next fifteen miles are all down hill to the next sizeable station at the historic market town of Machynlleth, the former seat of Owain Glyndwr's Welsh Parliament in 1404. In a more modern context, it is the location of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) operations that is based here to control the Cambrian signalling. We follow the river Dovey through to the remote station of Dovey Junction, with its varied bird life, were we will take the Aberystwyth line. With the Dovey estuary nearby, we head southwards through Borth before cutting inland to pass through Llandre and Bow Street, where there are two steep climbs to negotiate before our arrival in Aberystwyth. Scottish Railway Preservation Society Railtours - The Oban Peak

The Oban Peak Saturday 6 June 2026 Step aboard our train for a truly unforgettable railway adventure and experience Scotland at its most breathtaking on Saturday 6th June (see below for departure points and estimated times). From the banks of the Clyde, to the deep waters of Loch Long and the breathtaking Glen Lochy, this journey showcases the dramatic Scottish landscape as it unfolds right outside your window. Every mile offers a new view, a fresh perspective and memories that will stay with you long after the journey ends. And once you arrive in the picturesque fishing port of Oban, you are free to wander round this charming, bustling west coast port famously known as the 'Seafood Capital of Scotland'. Oban is a 'Gateway to the Isles' with ferries leaving regularly from the terminal adjacent to the railway station, but it is also a destination that is also worth exploring. If a leg stretch is in order, then a walk up to McCaig's Tower is the perfect solution. Known as 'Oban's answer to the Colosseum', it is an iconic feature on the Oban townscape; and quite difficult to miss, thanks to its elevated position on Battery Hill - simply look up as you leave Oban station! There are peaceful gardens contained inside the circular wall structure and a platform outside for some glorious views across the town's rooftops, Oban Bay and across to the Island of Mull and the islands beyond. Fancy a local wee dram? Then why not book a 1hr tour of Oban Distillery. Established in 1794 and just a short walk from the station, Oban Distillery is one of the oldest and smallest whisky producers in Scotland; to this day, they operate with just two pot stills. During the tour you will learn about the distillery's traditional production methods and finish with a wee warming dram of the 'water of life' to toast the experience. Visit the Oban Distillery website for bookings and more information. A walk along the seafront will lead you to a bit of history if you explore the Dunollie museum, castle and grounds. It is the ancestral home of Clan MacDougall, a powerful and notable family who were involved in more than their fair share of drama over the centuries, from 'scuffles' with Robert The Bruce in the 1300s, to being exiled for their loyalty to the Jacobite cause after the failed 1715 rebellion. The lovely grounds on the shores of the bay feature the original restored medieval castle ruin, a museum in the 1745 Laird's house, tranquil trails through ancient woodland, a lovely cafeand a gift shop - not to mention the glorious views of Oban Bay. Join a 1-hour guided tour for the best local insight into the castle's history. The tour is included in your ticket price and can be booked in advance on the Dunollie Castle website. More history can be found at the War & Peace museum, especially because Oban has had such a varied history from the arrival of Mesolithic cave dwellers to the opening of Oban Distillery in 1794, to the town's role as an RAF base during World War II, and home to the Northern Lighthouse Board to this very day (the Lighthouse Authority for the whole of Scotland and Isle of Man). Stories from the past and present are captured in an amazing range of photographs and displays. Entry to the museum is free but donations are always welcome and appreciated. Visit the museum website here And if it is just a simple refreshment you are looking for, then Oban has a lively pub scene with plenty of charismatic venues to choose from including Fish and Chips at The Oban Inn, the beer garden at Markie Dans, a wee Ceilidh at The View or a quick one in The Corryvreckan before departure. Places to eat are found in abundance, from the legendary Seafood hut on the Railway Pier serving fresh seafood and cooked mussels on paper plates to the Coast restaurant with its high quality cuisine from land and sea, served in a relaxed setting with warm, unfussy service - reckoned to be one of the town's best restaurants. And don't forget George Street Fish & Chips if it's a takeaway you are after. If you want a break from seafood, then Piazza, a casual waterfront Italian restaurant is a safe bet for pizza and pasta. Whilst on board you can relax in beautifully restored British Rail MK1 carriages, where classic comfort and timeless charm create the perfect setting for a memorable journey. Leading the way is the magnificently restored British Rail Class 45 diesel locomotive, number 45118 'The Royal Artilleryman', making this train a landmark occasion for the class 45 as they have never been to Oban! And throughout our journey to and from Oban we will keep you suitably fed and watered, with a choice of at seat dining with a hearty breakfast on our way north and a three course evening dinner served on the return OR feel free to visit our well stocked buffet car with a large selection of hot and cold drinks, morning hot rolls and lots of snacks to keep the children happy. Whether you're drawn to spectacular scenery, historic railway heritage, or the simple joy of easy going, immersive travel, this special train offers a unique and inspiring way to explore Oban and the heart of Scotland. Join us for a truly unforgettable railtour as Class 45118 'The Royal Artilleryman' makes history, becoming the first of its class to venture onto the legendary West Highland Line en route to Oban. Our journey begins in the historic Border city of Carlisle, where we welcome our first passengers on board before heading north along the West Coast Main Line. Passing the depot and freight yard at Carlisle Kingmoor, we continue across the Scottish Border to Lockerbie, our second pick-up point. Railway enthusiasts will savour a standout moment of the day as our 2,500hp Sulzer-powered Class 45 takes on the famous climb to Beattock Summit, a thrilling highlight of the journey. After passing Carstairs we arrive at our next stop Carlick before we call at Motherwell, then pass through Scotland's biggest railway yard at Mossend. Our next pick-up is Robroyston, conveniently located just off the M80 with a large free car park, followed by Westerton, our final boarding point. We then head along the banks of the River Clyde and Helensburgh Upper marks the start of the world famous West Highland Line, voted the greatest rail journey in the world. From here, the scenery transforms dramatically as we travel alongside Gare Loch, home to Faslane Naval Base, before continuing past the striking waters of Loch Long. The line then skirts the stunning northwestern shores of Loch Lomond, where forested hills, shimmering water, and ever-changing light create postcard-perfect views. Climbing steadily through Glen Falloch, we reach Crianlarich, where we take the line to Oban as the line to Fort William heads north. Our route continues through the beautiful contours of Glen Lochy, Dalmally and along the side of Loch Awe, followed by the spectacular Pass of Brander, before passing through the quaint towns of Taynuilt and Connel Ferry, before descending into the beautiful fishing port of Oban. Oban - Free Time We arrive in Oban in time for lunch, with approximately three hours of free time to explore. The town centre and high street are just minutes from the station, offering the perfect opportunity for a relaxed meal, scenic walk, or browsing local shops. Return Journey We later rejoin the train for the return journey along the same breathtaking route. With changing light and new perspectives, the landscapes of the West Highland Line reveal fresh beauty on the way home, bringing this exceptional rail adventure to a memorable close. The train is operated by our Partners at Locomotive Services Limited. Fares; Estimated Timings; Timings above are estimated timings and should only be taken as a guideline. Finalised timings will be released with tickets in advance of the Railtour.

Railway Touring Company - The Mazey Day Cornishman

The Mazey Day Cornishman Saturday 27 June 2026 Join us on this special excursion to the far west of Cornwall to experience the Mazey Day festivities in the Cornish town of Penzance. Mazey Day is the main event of the annual midsummer Golowan Festival in Penzance, with its traditional arts, music and parades, including the large wicker models created by the community. Enjoy the street entertainment, markets, food and craft stalls set up in the streets, along with live music, dancing and street performers providing entertainment across the town. The town will be decorated with flags and flowers, creating a vibrant and colourful atmosphere. On top of this, you can enjoy a highly scenic journey all the way to the southwest from the comfort of your special train. The Mazey Day Cornishman will leave Dorridge diesel hauled by two Class 37 locomotives early in the morning which provides a convenient departure point for Warwickshire and west Birmingham customers to join. We then make our way to Birmingham New Street where a further pick will be made. Our journey southwards will follow the Bristol main line through to pick up stops at Worcestershire Parkway and Cheltenham, followed by a call at Cam & Dursley. Our last pick up stations will be at Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads. From Bristol we will speed across the Somerset Levels and over the border into Devon after the climb to Whiteball Summit, arriving in Exeter as a prelude to the run along the Exe estuary and the famous Dawlish Seawall. Enjoy the glimmer of the waves reflecting on our train as we run along the shoreline of the English Channel through Dawlish towards Teignmouth, one of the great rail journeys of England. Cutting inland, we will follow the Teign estuary to Newton Abbot where we encounter the first of many of the day's steep inclines as we climb the challenging east side of Dainton Bank. More climbing follows once through Totnes, as we take a run at Rattery Bank and along the edge of Dartmoor, on our way to Plymouth. There will be a short leg stretch in Plymouth. From Plymouth, we will cross the river Tamar on the spectacular Royal Albert Bridge, engineered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1859. The two lenticular iron spans take the railway line high across the Tamar into Cornwall. Our journey continues to twist and turn through Cornwall with its many viaducts and tunnels to pass through on the way. We will pause at Par to set down passengers who may wish to explore the local area that includes the pretty harbour villages of Fowey or Charlestown, or perhaps take the train to Newquay if a seaside destination appeals to you. As we continue through Cornwall, you will see the characteristic white hills from the china clay industrial mining as we make our way through to Truro, where there will be the option to detrain to visit this interesting cathedral city, or perhaps take the local train to the attractive harbour town of Falmouth. As we progress into deepest Cornwall, your journey will include rolling countryside all the way, with frequent sightings of Cornish Engine Houses visible from the train, once the heart of the extensive tin mining industry. Our penultimate stop to set down will be at St Erth where you can opt to alight and take the short branch train to St Ives. As we near journeys end at Penzance, there is still one more gem to see at Marazion as we pass the spectacular St Michaels Mount that dominates the skyline. We will be aiming to arrive at Penzance around lunch time and you will have now have time to visit Penzance and experience the festivities of Mazey Day. The town is right by the station and there are promenade walks by the waterside to allow you to soak up the atmosphere during your free time in Penzance. Apart from all the Mazey Day street festivities going on during your visit, be sure to sample a real Cornish pasty! Once our time comes to reluctantly leave the Mazey Day celebrations, we will return to Dorridge by way of our outward route, setting down at our earlier pick up points, thus ending our full day to Cornwall from the West Midlands. UK Railtours - Independence Day

Independence Day Saturday 4th July 2026 Save 10% by booking early with our Early Bird Discount - see below for details! Today's tour celebrates the influence that the prodigious US manufacturer General Motors has had on the UK rail industry since the Class 59 locomotives were introduced 40 years ago. And for those more interested in 'scoring' rare freight locomotives, we offer a good old fashioned 'Spin and Win' tour around Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire, utilising a variety of GM powered locomotives from DB Cargo, Heavy Haul and GB Railfreight. The Declaration of Independence, the founding document of the United States, was signed in Philadelphia on 4th July 1776 and 250 years on we are going to celebrate! Whether that is to mark the enduring special relationship with our American friends, or just to acknowledge the fact that we are now independent countries, we will leave that to you to decide. Onboard we will have a mobile beer festival featuring up to ten different beers and ciders, a buffet car serving some American favourites, and a few USA themed fun activities to add to the day's entertainment. This will be our only tour planned to feature freight locomotives (and mobile beer festivals!) this summer, so join us for a pint, hotdog and very rare engines on hopefully a beautiful summer's day out with your friends! Our day starts in London, where for those so inclined, the empty coaching stock move into London King's Cross is operated 'in service' from Finsbury Park for those wanting to enjoy some bonus GM traction in the form of a GBRf Class 57/3 locomotive. For most the interest will really begin on departure from London King's Cross. Our Class 69 locomotive was re-engined in 2021 and now boasts the same General Motors power unit as the ubiquitous class 66 locomotive. But our routing today is anything but common, as we take the the former Great Northern and Great Eastern 'Joint Line' from Peterborough to Sleaford and then head west, through the sleepy Lincolnshire villages of Rauceby and Ancaster. We dive under the East Coast Main Line and continue west towards Nottingham, our final pick up opportunity today. We then travel the few sho+D169rt miles to DB Cargo's base at Toton, where we are booked to exchange locomotives in the Toton Up and Down Independent which may give rise to a rare track 'bobbins' opportunity for some. From here we enjoy traction from our first Class 66 locomotive of the day. DB Cargo (then known as EWS) were the first freight company to operate Class 66 locomotives with the first arriving from the US in 1998. All have now worked at least one passenger train, and whilst some have been exported, then returned, and more recently exported again, DB Cargo still operate an expansive fleet and we will be seeking one of the rarer locomotives to operate our train today. Leaving Toton, we head north towards Chesterfield and the 'Old Road' bypassing Sheffield and heading for Moorthorpe Junction, where we join the London to Leeds main line which we follow through Wakefield Westgate. We avoid Leeds station for very good reason. By diverting at Whitehall Junction we can access Hunslet Down Reception, where our next locomotive will be waiting for us. From the loop, passengers will be able to view Heavy Haul's Midland Road depot from where our locomotive will have been stabled. Again, we are targeting a GM powered Class 66 locomotive, and several examples from the former Freightliner pool have yet to work passenger trains. We will be working closely with the team at Heavy Haul to secure such an example. Our fourth GM powered locomotive will lead us to Doncaster and we travel via Castleford and Gascoigne Wood before once again crossing the East Coast Main Line as we head towards Selby. Here we traverse the Canal Goods Curve before our final sprint towards Doncaster, where we enjoy an afternoon break of approximately two hours. Our train returns to collect its passengers with yet another GM powered locomotive. This time our train operator, GB Railfreight provides the Class 66 traction and the next leg back to Toton has been timed at 65mph so as to give the planners the maximum opportunity to provide us with a rare example from their fleet. Our route back into Nottingham is suitably circuitous. We begin by once again joining the 'Joint Line', this time in a southerly direction through Gainsborough as far as Pyewipe Junction where we take the freight curve onto the Lincoln-Newark line. Few stretches of railway have quite so many public crossings as that between Swinderby and Newark but most on board will undoubtedly be enjoying the American themed refreshments being offered from the buffet car to notice the distinctive Class 66 horn that will be in frequent use. After passing our first set down opportunity at Nottingham, we run forward to East Midlands Parkway where we reverse to regain access to Toton yard. It is here we bid farewell to our GBRf Class 66 and re-couple our Class 69 locomotive for the journey home. Our route back to London sees us follow the Midland main line as far as Syston Junction where we veer left, passing through Melton Mowbray and Stamford before reaching Peterborough and the East Coast Main Line back to London King's Cross. On behalf of our industry partners involved in the operation of todays tour, UK Railtours will be making a valuable donation to the Martin House Children's Hospice - a very special good cause which we know means a great deal to many people who have played a part in bringing you our tour today. This tour utilises Mk2 carriages provided with thanks to Eastern Rail Services. Book early to take advantage of our Early Bird Discount which saves 10% if you book this tour by Friday 15th May. Just enter code EB10 in the Promotional Code box when booking online, or mention it when booking by phone. Following the Stour Valley route, we head through the industrial Black Country towards Wolverhampton where we again make a pick-up stop. A quick dash now follows through Penkridge to Stafford, our final pick-up point. It is now northwards we head, away from Stafford and follow the West Coast Main Line with an expected lively climb up to Whitmore Summit before descending into Crewe, a delight for those who enjoy spotting the various locomotives and traction that appear in Basford Hall freight yards. From Crewe, we leave the WCML and head across the fertile Cheshire Plain through Beeston Castle towards Chester. Negotiating the tracks that pass beneath the famous city walls of Roman Chester, we cross the border and enter North Wales, running along the coastal route through Shotton, where we will soon have some pleasant views across the Dee Estuary as we follow it as far as Prestatyn. With the Welsh hills prominent inland, the coastal vista now turns to wide sweeping views over Liverpool Bay as we follow the line through to Rhyl. Further attractive scenery continues as the railway hugs the coastal cliffs through Colwyn Bay on the approach to Llandudno Junction. Here we reverse our direction of travel to access the 28-mile-long Blaenau Ffestiniog branch, known as the Conwy Valley Line. Leaving Llandudno Junction, we follow closely the banks of the Afon Conwy through Llanwrst as far as the major tourist town of Betws-y-Coed, complete with its railway museum next to the tracks. Beyond Betws-y-Coed, the single line enters the Lledr Valley where the gradients increase substantially, requiring some very hard work from our locomotives for several miles through its many twists and turns. We cross the Lledr on the spectacular 24-arch Pont Gethin Viaduct, followed by narrow tunnels and a glimpse of Dolwyddelan castle as we climb through Roman Bridge to the summit at the Blaenau tunnel. The 2.5-mile-long tunnel is the longest unlined tunnel in the UK, which took 6 years to complete. Exiting the tunnel on the Blaenau side, the landscape changes dramatically from lush Snowdonia scenery to a total domination of slate quarry waste, which leads us to our destination of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Time will be available here to visit this historic slate town, with its number of traditional shops and cafes to cater for visitors. After our break in Blaenau Ffestiniog, we will return along the Conwy Valley Line to Llandudno Junction, where we will reverse once again and retrace our way back to Oxford via our outward route. UK Railtours - By Routemaster to the Lost Village of Imber

By Routemaster to the Lost Village of Imber Saturday 15th August 2026 Our last visit to Imber for the Imberbus event was way back in 2024, and since then we've been itching to return. With the support of our friends at GB Railfreight and Hastings Diesels Ltd, we are delighted to announce that it's finally happening! Hidden from view on Salisbury Plain, the village of Imber is no longer inhabited as the residents were evicted just before Christmas 1943 by the MoD, in order to step up army training in advance of D-Day. The villagers were promised that their village would be returned to them after the war but this was not to be and over seventy-five years on it is still uninhabited, much of it having been destroyed. It remains in use for army training purposes but the connecting road over the Plain is open to the public on a very limited number of occasions each year. Imberbus is an unusual event by any standards. Since 2009, on just one day a year, an intensive service of London Routemaster Buses has operated between Warminster and Imber, continuing to remote spots such as New Zealand Farm and the curiously-named Brazen Bottom. The annual event has raised many thousands of pounds for the British Legion and for the upkeep of Imber Church, one of the very few buildings to survive intact. The event has grown and the 2024 running hosted up to 40 buses in operation, wit thousands of visitors carried and more tens of thousands raised for charity. As we did in 2024, we will be using the Hastings DEMU 1001. This means we will have a buffet car onboard as well as providing excellent capacity to what is sure to be a popular railtour. Our special train will run from Tonbridge, pausing to pickup passengers at South Croydon and London Waterloo before heading west calling at Woking and Basingstoke en-route to Warminster via Salisbury. On the way home we take a slightly longer route, travelling via Romsey, Southampton and Winchester before our first set down at Basingstoke. An Imberbus rover ticket is included in your fare so you can travel to each of the Imberbus destinations aboard your choice of Routemasters - old and new, long and short, red and green! You can access parts of Imber itself, and the church will be open. Click HERE to visit the Imberbus website and learn more about the event and its history. UK Railtours - The Ancient Kingdom

The Ancient Kingdom Saturday 22nd August 2026 Taking full advantage of a long midsummer day we venture north to the Kingdom of Northumbria. We have three very different options for you to choose from - the wonderful Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the delightfully quaint Heatherslaw Light Railway or a visit to picturesque Alnwick. Our journey takes us through York, past Durham Castle and Cathedral and we glimpse Antony Gormley's extraordinary 'Angel of the North' as we approach Newcastle. After pausing at Alnmouth we reach Berwick-upon-Tweed, the border town still redolent of centuries of conflict between the English and the Scots. Those who choose to remain in Berwick will have around three and a half hours to explore, or choose from one of the three off train options below! OFF TRAIN OPTION - ALNWICK AT LEISURE The town of Alnwick dates back to AD600 and retains much of its original character. Alnwick Castle, the second largest inhabited castle after Windsor, is popular with film makers; Blackadder, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Harry Potter were all made here. Alnwick Garden is a complex of formal gardens, featuring various themed plantings designed around a central water cascade. It is the most ambitious garden created in the UK post war. The old Alnwick station is now home to Barter Books, one of England's largest and most famous secondhand bookshops. This option includes a brief coach transfer between Alnmouth Station and Alnwick. Because there is such a choice of things to do we have not included any admission charges. You will have around four hours to explore. OFF TRAIN OPTION - THE HOLY ISLAND OF LINDISFARNE Perched tantalisingly just off the Northumberland coast and cut off by the tide twice a day, Holy Island and its Priory are considered one of the holiest sites in Britain. We leave the train at Alnmouth where coaches will be waiting for the journey to Lindisfarne which includes the narrow causeway that connects the island with the mainland. We can assure potential participants that we have checked the tide tables! We have some three hours here, time to take a walk to the castle or just explore this extraordinary place. Don't forget to purchase a bottle of the local produce, Lindisfarne Mead. OFF TRAIN OPTION - THE HEATHERSLAW LIGHT RAILWAY One of England's lesser known minor railways, this fifteen inch gauge line runs for two miles, following the River Till through an area rich in wildlife, set between the Cheviot Hills and the border with Scotland. Coaches meet the train at Berwick for the twelve mile run to the Heatherslaw Light Railway where we will enjoy a break of about three hours. Your supplement for this option includes coach transfers and a return journey on the railway. First Class Dining includes The Great British Breakfast and a four course dinner, served at your seat by The Railway Diners. First Class Dining is not available from, or back to Doncaster due to time constraints. A well stocked buffet car serving a range of snacks and drinks will be available for those travelling in First Class Non Dining and Standard Class. Please select your chosen off train option at the time of booking to avoid disappointment. Railway Touring Company - The Cornish Branchliner

The Cornish Branchliner Saturday 19 September 2026 Step aboard for an unforgettable diesel-hauled rail adventure that spans the very heart of Britain's railway heritage and some of its most spectacular scenery. Our journey begins at Crewe, one of the nation's most historic railway junctions, before heading south along the iconic West Coast Main Line, gathering passengers en-route as we pass through the Midlands and beyond. From the bustle of Birmingham New Street, we press south over classic main line territory, including the celebrated descent of the Lickey Incline, before continuing into the rolling landscapes of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. ?As our train heads towards the South-West, anticipation builds for the dramatic coastal running that lies ahead. Our tour commences at the busy railway junction of Crewe, famous for its origins as a railway town and extensive works. We will travel southwards along the West Coast Main Line and call at Stafford before heading towards the West Midlands. A stop to pick up further passengers will be made at Tame Bridge Parkway, which offers convenient parking for Wolverhampton and Walsall passengers. Calling next at Birmingham New Street, we will now head southwards, including the descent of the Lickey Bank, through Bromsgrove and on to Worcestershire Parkway, where we pause to pick up passengers from the Worcester area. Further south, we call at Cheltenham and Cam & Dursley before heading towards Bristol. Pick up stops will be made at Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Mead, and then we head across the Somerset Levels through Bridgwater towards Exeter. We now have the eagerly awaited run along the famous Dawlish Sea Wall to look forward to as we sweep along the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean on this special section of track, often affected by bad weather and high waves. Heading inland at Teignmouth, we will follow the Teign estuary to Newton Abbot before we commence one of many very steep climbs over the south Devon Banks. Dainton Bank leads to Totnes, followed by the equally challenging climb over Rattery Bank on the edge of Dartmoor before we eventually reach the naval city of Plymouth. Famed for its naval dockyards, the city has a rich maritime history linked to the Mayflower carrying Pilgrims to America in 1620. Devonport is also a large naval base with early links to famous explorers like Sir Francis Drake and Captain Cook. After a pause at Plymouth, we will now leave Devon and enter Cornwall by way of our passage over Isambard Kingdom Brunel's impressive Royal Albert Bridge over the Tamar. Now in Cornwall, our route will follow the main line through Liskeard and Lostwithiel to the junction of the Fowey branch. Our special train will leave the main line and closely follow the river Fowey through to Carne Point. This is now a freight only line and it's quite rare for a passenger train to run down the branch. We pass the little harbour at Golant and reach the present end of the line at Carne Point, which is a working port that has served the China Clay industry since the line opened in 1869. The attractive Fowey harbour is a mile further along, but the town no longer has a station, although there was a recent proposal to reopen the branch once again to passenger traffic. Once we have reached the docks, we will retrace our outward route back to Plymouth and then call to set down passengers at our earlier pick-up points back to Crewe.
