Departing from
Crewe, Stoke-on-Trent, Derby
This train is being operated to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the opening of Worksop Railway Station and coinciding with the 25th Anniversary of the opening of the 'Mallard' public house on the station. The train will be formed of Top & Tail Class 20 locomotives and there will be the added attraction of a visit to SB Rail's nearby depot. Departing from Crewe with additional passenger stops at Stoke on Trent and Derby we then travel via Chesterfield, Sheffield, Woodburn Jn & Shireoaks to Worksop.
On arrival at Worksop customers can detrain and visit the Mallard who will be hosting a beer festival and for those who wish to remain aboard, with grateful thanks to SB Rail, the train will reverse and proceed to the Swietelski Rail Depot situated on the former Down Yard. The train will enter Shed 1 where a selection of locomotives will be present. Additionally, SB Rail will also place locomotives outside of Shed 1 which will be available to view from the train as it is not possible to alight whilst in the depot.
Once our visit has been completed the train will return to Worksop station where all customers must detrain and after a suitable break the train will depart Worksop and run via Retford Low Level, Gainsborough Central & Brigg to Barnetby where a reversal will take place. From Barnetby the train will run via Market Rasen, Lincoln Central, Swinderby, Newark Castle, Nottingham & Sheet Stores Jn to Derby for our first set down. After reversal at Derby the train will retrace its earlier route setting down at Stoke on Trent & Crewe
The train is formed of Mark 3 First Class carriages hauled throughout by our vintage Class 20 locomotives in top & tail formation.

Saturday 18 July 2026
Departing from
Crewe, Warrington Bank Quay, Wigan North Western, Preston, Lancaster
We recreate one of the famous British Rail Merrymaker trains of the 1970.s for a fabulous day tour travelling over the Northern Fells and Beattock Summit to Edinburgh for a sightseeing break, returning along the coastal East Coast line through Berwick upon Tweed and the scenic Tyne Valley. We travel north to the border city of Carlisle thence past the Solway Firth and through the beautiful Scottish Lowlands with the highlight of the journey being the steep climb to spectacular Beattock Summit for an arrival into Edinburgh Waverley station, and an afternoon break of around 3 hours. The station is located just below one of the UK's most historic and popular shopping areas - Princes Street, with its international stores on one side and the beautiful gardens on the other.
There is something for everyone in this truly enchanting city with numerous attractions all within easy walking distance - perhaps visit the mediaeval Old Town and take a stroll down the Royal Mile to the Kings Scottish residence, the Palace of Holyrood house, or visit the impressive fortress of Edinburgh Castle set high on a rocky crag, home of the Scottish Crown Jewels and Stone of Destiny. For the more adventurous perhaps take a short taxi ride to the former Royal Yacht Britannia or jump on an open top bus offering a tour of all the major historic sites and attractions.
We return in the late afternoon along the coastal route through Berwick upon Tweed with views of Lindisfarne and at Newcastle we take the Tyne Valley line through Hexham with distant views of Hadrians Wall.
The train is hauled throughout by our vintage Class 40 locomotive D213 'Andania'

Saturday 1 August 2026
Departing from
Crewe, Shrewsbury, Hereford
'On 1st August 1966, two days after England won the World Cup, D1948 entered traffic. Sixty years later Locomotive Services are celebrating its anniversary, to the day, offering a day excursion to the City of Bristol. The train will be operated by what is now 47712 along with another Class 47, in Top & Tail formation, from Crewe to Bristol T.M.
The train will leave Crewe around 08.30 picking up at Shrewsbury (09.00) and Hereford (10.10). From Hereford the train will run via Ledbury, Worcester Shrub Hill and Evesham to Oxford. This route is little used by locomotive hauled trains these days and provides the opportunity to do so. From Oxford we will travel via Foxhall Jn (Didcot), Swindon and Bristol Parkway to Bristol T.M. ( 13.45) where customers can alight if they wish to.
For those wishing to do something a little different the train will then depart Bristol T.M. and head towards Portbury Docks. Leaving the main line at Parson Street Jn we will traverse the Portishead branch as far as the Stop Board for Portbury Docks. On arrival there you will be able to view where the branch to Portishead used to run and which will hopefully reopen in 2028, having closed in 1964. After our reversal we will then head back to Bristol T.M., but not via the direct route as we will traverse the line via St Philips Marsh. On arrival into Bristol there will an opportunity for a 2/3-hour break away from the train.
Once back on the train we will return to Crewe from Bristol T.M. (17.45), this time via the alternative route of Bath Spa, Swindon, Kemble and Cheltenham Spa to Worcester Shrub Hill. From here we will retrace our steps, setting down at Hereford (21.00) and Shrewsbury (22.00) before arriving back in Crewe (22.30).
