Our journey begins beneath the overall roof of the Great Northern Railway's London terminus, King's Cross Station, opened on 14 October 1852 and designed by Lewis Cubitt. Steam?hauled throughout, this classic journey follows the East Coast Main Line, passing Stoke Bank, where 4468 Mallard set the world speed record for a steam locomotive in 1938. The route continues through Grantham and Doncaster before heading north to the stunning cathedral city, arriving in the historic heart of York. Take in the sights and sounds of the season as carol singers and street performers entertain the crowds and the scent of spiced wine fills the air. Our journey begins at Southend Central railway station, where our liveried steward welcomes you aboard the sumptuous vintage carriages. The train will stop at stations across Essex to pick up passengers before skirting London, where our steam locomotive joins us. From here, it takes us on an express run along the West Coast Main Line, through the suburbs and out into Warwickshire and Staffordshire. We pass beautiful countryside as the railway traverses the more rural parts of Cheshire, before arriving in the lovely city of Chester, where the Tudor streets come alive with festive splendour. This journey is steam hauled from West London to Chester on the outward journey.
