2267 ? 24 September 2026 ST. ALBANS CITY
The Royston Club, College Road, St Albans. AL1 5PJ
We try a new venue in St Albans this year. The Royston club was established in 1936 as the College Club. Following a licensing issue in 1952 it was re-launched, taking the name "Royston" from another nearby street. The club is about a mile from St Albans City station, but buses S1 or 305 stop nearby. See map.
In the 2000s the club came close to closure, but was successfully rescued and turned around by a team led by local estate agent Barrie Lloyd, who remains the club's long-serving Secretary. Regularly featured in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide, the club has also won the South Hertfordshire CAMRA Club of the Year on multiple occasions. Up to four cask ales are offered along with a selection of traditional still ciders. A dark beer will be on for us today, but those requiring an even larger beer range may like to note that St Albans beer festival is on today, at the Civic Centre.

2268 ? 1 October 2026 CROWBOROUGH AND BURWASH (COH)
Afternoon bus tour, evening at The Wheatsheaf, TN6 2NF
Today we repeat the trip that we made in January 2024 to Lakedown brewery in Burwash. Hopefully our scheduling will allow us to sample the green hopped beer at their taproom in the Fishermans Lodge, but they are also aware that we like dark beer. We doubt that the lake will be frozen over this time, but please don't swim!
Our bus will depart from Crowborough station at 12:15 to include the brewery visit and a couple of country pubs before rounding off with a return to The Wheatsheaf, Crowborough as our evening venue, from about 17:30.
Harvey's beers are available at The Wheatsheaf, including Mild or Old as the dark offering. Food is available from the normal menu from 18:00.
By necessity we have to use a single deck bus, so please use this link to ensure that you have a seat. You don't need to use the bus if only appearing at The Wheatsheaf, there's a footpath from Crowborough station at the end of Farningham Road.
