- Model Railway Workshop
Saturday 16 May and Sunday 17 May 2026
Have you admired detailed model railway layouts at shows or online? Wished you could create your own layout at home, but aren't sure where to start?
Come along to our Model Railway Show. You'll not only see a host of marvellous railway layouts, but you'll also be able to speak to experienced modellers and watch their demonstrations that range from creating buildings to tracks and even wagons!
Giving aspiring modellers the skills to take home and create a simple model railway layout of their own.
If you are inspired to start your modelling journey right now, there's an excellent selection of modelling products at our nearby shop at Harbour Station - all available online here.
And if all this makes you peckish, why not pop into our popular Spooners Cafe& Bar for a coffee and one of our delicious cakes. Or sit down for a cool beer and a tasty meal from our extensive menu while watching heritage trains steam by!
Details of model railway layouts to be displayed will follow!
Tickets will be priced as follows;
Adults: £6.00
Children: £2.00
Opening times:
Saturday: 10:00 - 16:00
Sunday: 10:00 - 16:00
Why a Model Railway Workshop?
Perhaps you just don't know how to start or, when at an exhibition, you saw these masterpieces of model engineering and felt you could never produce anything like that. Well we are here to encourage you to start building a simple layout that doesn't have to take up much space.
The first thing that you have to decide what type of railway you want:
One big decision you have to make is the scale - i.e. how many millimetres you are going to have to represent a foot in real life; and gauge (the distance between the rails). For instance the gauge of the all the main railways is 4ft 8½ in and that of the Ffestiniog Railway is 2ft. To help you with this we have models of differing scales and gauges here.
If you are interested in modelling a narrow gauge line you can do no better than in 009. If you are tempted to purchase anything now, the shop at Harbour Station has a fine selection. These can also be found on the webshop.
