  • The Cumbrian Mountain Express Saturday 1 August 2026 The Cumbrian Mountain Express provides a wonderful opportunity to get out and about during the summer months, with the added bonus of steam haulage over the Northern Fells, including the spectacular Settle & Carlisle Railway. We have a high speed journey down the West Coast Main Line to Carnforth, hauled by a blue Class 86 electric locomotive. We then enjoy a circular steam tour outwards via Shap to Carlisle and back via the Settle and Carlisle line. We return from Preston to London behind our blue electric locomotive. We leave London Euston with electric traction, and speed north along the West Coast Main Line (WCML). We stop to pick up passengers at Watford Junction, Milton Keynes, Rugby (where passengers from Northampton join by service train), Nuneaton and Crewe. We continue north along the WCML to Preston, our final stop to pick up passengers. We continue through Lancaster to Carnforth, where we change motive power to a steam locomotive from the Carnforth pool. Leaving Carnforth, our steam locomotive will be working hard when we climb the first severe gradient up to Grayrigg. We then travel through the beautiful Lune Gorge to Tebay, gaining speed for the ascent to Shap. This well-known section of the WCML has a gradient of 1 in 75 and, in the former days of steam locomotives, banking engines from Tebay were often used to assist trains. After crossing the Cumbrian Fells we descend to Penrith, and then head for Carlisle. There will be around two hours in Carlisle, providing time to explore this ancient 'Border' city with its castle, cathedral, Tullie House Museum, and shopping centre. We leave Carlisle and join the Settle & Carlisle Railway, one of the most well known and best loved stretches of railway line in Britain. We soon begin climbing, and then at Appleby, we stop for our steam locomotive to take on water. The climbing continues through scenic Kirkby Stephen towards the highest railway summit in England at Ais Gill, 1169 feet above sea level. We pass over tall viaducts, including the famous one at Ribblehead, and through tunnels. There are magnificent views across the Fells and to the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. We should have a fast run out of the hills, through Settle, until we stop again for our locomotive to take on water. ?Our journey continues through Hellifield and Clitheroe to Preston where we say goodbye to our steam locomotive. We pass though Wigan and Warrington en route to Crewe hauled by our blue class 86 electric locomotive with a fast run to London expected. We stop at the same stations as on the outward journey to set down passengers. Available Classes Premier Dining Premier Dining includes a full English breakfast and four course dinner freshly prepared on board and silver served at your seat. First Class First Class includes morning tea or coffee with a breakfast roll and a muffin and an afternoon service of tea or coffee with a savoury of the day followed by scone with butter and jam.   • English Riviera Express Saturday 1 August 2026 Departing from Shrewsbury, Church Stretton, Craven Arms, Ludlow, Leominster, Hereford, Abergavenny, Cwmbran, Severn Tunnel Junction We recreate one of the great holiday trains of the golden age of railway travel for a steam hauled journey on our luxury train through Somerset and around the beautiful Devon coast with time available to discover the many charms of the pretty 'English Riviera' resort of Dartmouth. Travelling through the remote Blackdown hills and along the Exe Valley to Exeter, before heading beside the estuary with its pretty fishing boats and stunning views across to Exmouth and the Jurassic coast. Continuing past Powderham Castle and along the famous sea wall line we race through tunnels and cuttings of red rock at Dawlish and beside beaches and coves with the sea keeping company with the train. At Paignton we join the steeply graded heritage line and travel alongside the beautiful River Dart with views of HMS Britannia - not a ship but the college that has trained generations of naval officers. We soon arrive at the riverside terminus at Kingswear, where it is a short crossing on the ferry (price included) to the historic and romantic port of Dartmouth - there are antique shops, galleries, and cafes to explore or perhaps take a leisurely cruise on the river Dart. There should be around three hours at leisure before we return in the late afternoon. The train is steam hauled from Taunton by one of our immaculately restored pool of engines including: the world famous LMS Royal Scot Class, No.46100 'Royal Scot' - West Country Class, No. 34046 'Braunton' - Britannia Pacific Class, No 70000 'Britannia'. Mobility: This tour may not be suitable for guests requiring the use of a wheelchair or with serious mobility issues.   • The Avon Gorgeous Saturday 1 August 2026 Departing from Crewe, Shrewsbury, Hereford 'On 1st August 1966, two days after England won the World Cup, D1948 entered traffic. Sixty years later Locomotive Services are celebrating its anniversary, to the day, offering a day excursion to the City of Bristol. The train will be operated by what is now 47712 along with another Class 47, in Top & Tail formation, from Crewe to Bristol T.M. The train will leave Crewe around 08.30 picking up at Shrewsbury (09.00) and Hereford (10.10). From Hereford the train will run via Ledbury, Worcester Shrub Hill and Evesham to Oxford. This route is little used by locomotive hauled trains these days and provides the opportunity to do so. From Oxford we will travel via Foxhall Jn (Didcot), Swindon and Bristol Parkway to Bristol T.M. ( 13.45) where customers can alight if they wish to. For those wishing to do something a little different the train will then depart Bristol T.M. and head towards Portbury Docks. Leaving the main line at Parson Street Jn we will traverse the Portishead branch as far as the Stop Board for Portbury Docks. On arrival there you will be able to view where the branch to Portishead used to run and which will hopefully reopen in 2028, having closed in 1964. After our reversal we will then head back to Bristol T.M., but not via the direct route as we will traverse the line via St Philips Marsh. On arrival into Bristol there will an opportunity for a 2/3-hour break away from the train. Once back on the train we will return to Crewe from Bristol T.M. (17.45), this time via the alternative route of Bath Spa, Swindon, Kemble and Cheltenham Spa to Worcester Shrub Hill. From here we will retrace our steps, setting down at Hereford (21.00) and Shrewsbury (22.00) before arriving back in Crewe (22.30).   • A Day with "Alice the Little Welsh Engine" 1st August 2026 This year 'Alice' will be returning to star in her fourth "Day with Alice the Little Welsh Engine" since receiving a new boiler so come along and meet her along with 'Winifred' from Pauline Hazelwood's beautiful children's books. Pauline the author will be at Llanuwchllyn station reading some of the stories, demonstrating how she draws the characters and involving the children in activities as well as signing books. Find out more about these great little books at http://www.saddletankbooks.com/ 'Alice' will be giving rides at Llanuwchllyn station in the special Dinorwic Quarry carriage that was once used by royal visitors and shunting slate wagons just like she did in the quarry. 'Alice' will also be double-heading the last train of the day, which departs Llanuwchllyn at 4:05pm. Activities start at 10:30am and finish at 3:45pm. Sharpness Sports and Social Club, The Docks, Sharpness, Berkeley GL13 9UN, UK About the event 150 years ago eager travellers boarded the first passenger train to Sharpness. To celebrate this anniversary, the Vale of Berkeley Railway is running special train services on the Sharpness branch on 31st July, 1st August and 2nd August 2026. This is your chance to be a railway pioneer - one of the first people to ride the Sharpness branch, over 60 years after the line closed to passengers. As well as reliving history, you'll also be supporting the Vale of Berkeley Railway; this is a crucial fundraising event for us, as we work to improve our facilities at Oldminster Sidings and establish the VoBR as a significant asset and focal point for the Sharpness community. Your journey on our Class 143 Pacer train starts at our Oldminster Sidings base at Sharpness, passes the site of the former Berkeley Station and continues towards Berkeley Road junction, then returns to Sharpness. During the trip, a narrator will tell the story of the branch and the Pacer trains. As an extra attraction, you can be a Driver for a Fiver on our Planet diesel shunter at Oldminster Sidings. Are toilets available on the train? No, to meet current regulations the train toilets cannot be used. What is the Driver for a Fiver experience? Two Drivers for a Fiver will travel in the cab of our Planet diesel and under supervision, each will have the opportunity to drive the loco a short distance up and down the Sidings. The experience will last 10 - 15 minutes. You will need to be 18 or over with eyesight good enough to pass a UK driving test and must be able to climb up vertical steps into the locomotive unaided from ground level (approximately 2m vertical climb). Are refreshments available? Food and drink will be available at the Sharpness Sports and Social Club each day. What else can I do at the Club? While you're at the Club you can also enjoy our Sharpness branch exhibition, browse our VoBR stand, chat to our volunteers and even join us as a VoBR member! Why is the VoBR's Return to Sharpness event happening now? It's to commemorate 150 years since the first passengers travelled on the Sharpness on 1st August 1876. It also celebrates achieving our long wished-for dream, to run our own trains on the branch so passengers can enjoy the experience for the first time in over 60 years. And by raising funds to make major improvements at Oldminster Sidings, it will support the VoBR's aim to educate and entertain visitors, explaining how railways played an important role at the heart of the Sharpness community.

With great limestone peaks and deep valleys, the legendary 'Settle to Carlisle' line is a masterpiece of Victorian engineering including the magnificent 24 arch viaduct at Ribblehead. Time will be available for sightseeing in the historic border city of Carlisle. The Settle & Carlisle line is known for its magnificent scenery and steep gradient, so our engine will be working hard as we climb to the magnificent Ribblehead Viaduct with stunning views of the three peaks. Passengers get a marvellous view down Dent Dale as the train emerges from Blea Moor tunnel and approaching Garsdale you will see sweeping views of Wensleydale - with our engine in full flight we climb at 1 in 100 towards the summit of the line at Ais Gill. Travelling on through the lush Eden Valley to the historic border city of Carlisle where we arrive about 13.10. You may choose to stroll between the castle and cathedral or perhaps visit the famous Tullie House Museum - all surrounded by great places to shop, eat, or be entertained so creating the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Returning from Carlisle about 15.45 we travel over the same spectacular route giving another opportunity to experience the beauty of the high Pennines and pretty Ribble Valley as our locomotive works hard up the steep and taxing climb of Wilpshire Bank being a fitting end to a perfect day.   • The West Somerset Steam Express Saturday 8 August 2026 This series of trains from London Paddington to Minehead features haulage by two steam locomotives in one day. ?One steam locomotive will haul our train from London Paddington to the West Somerset Railway at Bishops Lydeard. *The Heritage Railway will then provide a steam locomotive to haul our train to Minehead and back. This provides a truly fascinating day out travelling through beautiful scenery to the Bristol Channel coast. We leave London Paddington steam hauled by the iconic No. 34028 Eddystone, and stop at Slough and Reading to pick up more passengers. At Reading we join the Berks and Hants line which runs through picturesque rural countryside. We pass the celebrated Newbury Racecourse before making our final stop for passengers at Newbury station. We continue westwards, travelling beside the tranquil Kennet & Avon Canal, and climbing steadily to Savernake Summit. We pass through the Vale of Pewsey, with views of one of the famous Wiltshire White Horses as we approach Westbury and continue through undulating agricultural countryside to Taunton. Soon after leaving Taunton, we arrive at Norton Fitzwarren, where we transfer to the West Somerset Railway (WSR), the longest Heritage Railway in the country. We continue to Bishops Lydeard, where a WSR steam locomotive will take over our train for the remainder of the journey to Minehead. The WSR runs along the edge of the Quantock Hills between Bishops Lydeard and Watchet where it meets the coast. The line then turns inland to Washford and returns to the coast at Blue Anchor, passing near to Dunster with its magnificent castle, and terminating at Minehead. On arrival at Minehead, there will be about two hours to explore this delightful Bristol Channel seaside resort, where the railway station is close to the beach. A WSR steam locomotive will haul our train from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard, where our main line steam locomotive Eddystone will take over for the return journey to London Paddington. The train will stop at Newbury, Reading and Slough to set down passengers. *Please note these trains may run with the main steam locomotive hauling the charter all the way to Minehead and return. We recreate one of the great holiday trains of the golden age of railway travel for a steam hauled journey on our luxury train through Somerset and around the beautiful Devon coast with time available to discover the many charms of the pretty 'English Riviera' resort of Dartmouth. Travelling through the remote Blackdown hills and along the Exe Valley to Exeter, before heading beside the estuary with its pretty fishing boats and stunning views across to Exmouth and the Jurassic coast. Continuing past Powderham Castle and along the famous sea wall line we race through tunnels and cuttings of red rock at Dawlish and beside beaches and coves with the sea keeping company with the train. At Paignton we join the steeply graded heritage line and travel alongside the beautiful River Dart with views of HMS Britannia - not a ship but the college that has trained generations of naval officers.   • The Waverley Sunday 9 August 2026 This summer series of steam hauled trains provides an opportunity for passengers from York, Leeds and the Aire Valley to travel over the spectacular Settle & Carlisle Railway, probably the most famous railway route in Britain. These day trips revive the nostalgic former days of steam when travel by train through magnificent scenery was an experience to savour. Our steam hauled train leaves York, hauled by a steam locomotive from the Carnforth pool and heads for Church Fenton where we take the direct route to Leeds. We stop to pick up more passengers at Leeds, Keighley, and Skipton. There will be a stop at Hellifield for our steam locomotive to take on water before we join the famous Settle & Carlisle Railway at Settle Junction. Here begins one of the most arduous climbs on Britain's railway network, a total of 15 miles mainly at a gradient of 1 in 100. Once through Settle station, there are magnificent views across the Fells to the Pennine Three Peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. We cross the breathtaking Ribblehead Viaduct, high above the valley floor, and enter Blea Moor Tunnel. We pass through Dent Dale and the highest open station in England at Dent, travelling through tunnels and crossing valleys on numerous lofty viaducts, as we make the final ascent to Ais Gill Summit (1,169 feet). We travel high above the valley at Mallerstang and then drop down through Kirkby Stephen and Appleby, to Lazenby where our locomotive takes on water. We continue to Carlisle and passengers will have about two hours to explore the Border City, possibly visiting the castle, cathedral, Tullie House Museum or the Lanes Shopping Centre. ?Our train leaves Carlisle for the return journey late afternoon and climbs almost continuously for just under 50 miles back up to Ais Gill summit. We stop, en route, at Appleby for our steam locomotive to take on water. We continue to stops at Skipton, Keighley, Leeds, and York, to set down passengers.   • The Dorset Coast Express Thursday 13 August 2026 We are offering a number of attractive summer day trips from London to Weymouth by steam train. These trains provide plenty of opportunity to visit the beautiful Dorset coast and relive the 'golden age' of steam. Passengers have the option of spending time at the celebrated seaside resorts of either Bournemouth or Weymouth, where both have fine sandy beaches. Each train will be hauled by a steam locomotive that was built for express passenger train work. Our train leaves London Victoria station steam hauled and travels westwards, crossing the river Thames at Barnes Bridge, through Kew and Feltham. We stop at Staines and Woking to pick up further passengers. At Winchfield, we pause for our steam locomotive to take on water before continuing to our final pick up point at Basingstoke. From Basingstoke we continue through Andover, bypassing Salisbury and on through Romsey to Southampton. We reverse direction of travel at Southampton and continue towards Weymouth, diesel hauled, with our steam locomotive on the rear. We stop at Bournemouth to set down those passengers wishing to visit this coastal resort, a spa town famous for its parks and pine trees. After leaving Bournemouth, there are spectacular views of Poole Harbour. We continue to Wareham and Dorchester travelling through classic Dorset countryside and delightful scenery. We arrive at Weymouth and have around three hours there to discover much of what this seaside town has to offer. The railway station is close to the beach and shops. ?We return from Weymouth steam hauled for the entire journey. We stop for our locomotive to take on water at Southampton and then continue through Winchester to Basingstoke, where we stop to set down passengers and for our steam locomotive to again take on water. Calling at Warwick Parkway, with its good road connections serving the surrounding area, we will then tackle the steep climb of Hatton Bank before arriving at Dorridge in the West Midlands for a further pick up. Following the Stour Valley route, we head through the industrial Black Country towards Wolverhampton where we again make a pick-up stop. A quick dash now follows through Penkridge to Stafford, our final pick-up point. It is now northwards we head, away from Stafford and follow the West Coast Main Line with an expected lively climb up to Whitmore Summit before descending into Crewe, a delight for those who enjoy spotting the various locomotives and traction that appear in Basford Hall freight yards. From Crewe, we leave the WCML and head across the fertile Cheshire Plain through Beeston Castle towards Chester. Negotiating the tracks that pass beneath the famous city walls of Roman Chester, we cross the border and enter North Wales, running along the coastal route through Shotton, where we will soon have some pleasant views across the Dee Estuary as we follow it as far as Prestatyn. With the Welsh hills prominent inland, the coastal vista now turns to wide sweeping views over Liverpool Bay as we follow the line through to Rhyl. Further attractive scenery continues as the railway hugs the coastal cliffs through Colwyn Bay on the approach to Llandudno Junction. Here we reverse our direction of travel to access the 28-mile-long Blaenau Ffestiniog branch, known as the Conwy Valley Line. Leaving Llandudno Junction, we follow closely the banks of the Afon Conwy through Llanwrst as far as the major tourist town of Betws-y-Coed, complete with its railway museum next to the tracks. Beyond Betws-y-Coed, the single line enters the Lledr Valley where the gradients increase substantially, requiring some very hard work from our locomotives for several miles through its many twists and turns. We cross the Lledr on the spectacular 24-arch Pont Gethin Viaduct, followed by narrow tunnels and a glimpse of Dolwyddelan castle as we climb through Roman Bridge to the summit at the Blaenau tunnel. The 2.5-mile-long tunnel is the longest unlined tunnel in the UK, which took 6 years to complete. Exiting the tunnel on the Blaenau side, the landscape changes dramatically from lush Snowdonia scenery to a total domination of slate quarry waste, which leads us to our destination of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Time will be available here to visit this historic slate town, with its number of traditional shops and cafes to cater for visitors. After our break in Blaenau Ffestiniog, we will return along the Conwy Valley Line to Llandudno Junction, where we will reverse once again and retrace our way back to Oxford via our outward route.   • By Routemaster to the Lost Village of Imber Saturday 15th August 2026 Our last visit to Imber for the Imberbus event was way back in 2024, and since then we've been itching to return. With the support of our friends at GB Railfreight and Hastings Diesels Ltd, we are delighted to announce that it's finally happening! Hidden from view on Salisbury Plain, the village of Imber is no longer inhabited as the residents were evicted just before Christmas 1943 by the MoD, in order to step up army training in advance of D-Day. The villagers were promised that their village would be returned to them after the war but this was not to be and over seventy-five years on it is still uninhabited, much of it having been destroyed. It remains in use for army training purposes but the connecting road over the Plain is open to the public on a very limited number of occasions each year. Imberbus is an unusual event by any standards. Since 2009, on just one day a year, an intensive service of London Routemaster Buses has operated between Warminster and Imber, continuing to remote spots such as New Zealand Farm and the curiously-named Brazen Bottom. The annual event has raised many thousands of pounds for the British Legion and for the upkeep of Imber Church, one of the very few buildings to survive intact. The event has grown and the 2024 running hosted up to 40 buses in operation, wit thousands of visitors carried and more tens of thousands raised for charity. As we did in 2024, we will be using the Hastings DEMU 1001. This means we will have a buffet car onboard as well as providing excellent capacity to what is sure to be a popular railtour. Our special train will run from Tonbridge, pausing to pickup passengers at South Croydon and London Waterloo before heading west calling at Woking and Basingstoke en-route to Warminster via Salisbury. On the way home we take a slightly longer route, travelling via Romsey, Southampton and Winchester before our first set down at Basingstoke. An Imberbus rover ticket is included in your fare so you can travel to each of the Imberbus destinations aboard your choice of Routemasters - old and new, long and short, red and green!   • The Cumbrian Coast Express Saturday 15 August 2026 This is a wonderful opportunity for those from the Crewe and Manchester areas to travel by steam train on a journey combining the scenic grandeur of the Cumbrian Fells with the exposed Cumbrian coastline that skirts the western edge of the Lake District. We travel from Carnforth steam hauled around the very scenic Cumbrian Coastal line.? Our train leaves Crewe, diesel hauled, at around 07:00 and calls at Wilmslow, Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly to pick up passengers. We join the West Coast Main Line (WCML) and travel north to Preston, our final stop to pick up passengers. We pass through Lancaster and along the edge of Morecambe Bay before arriving at Carnforth. Leaving Carnforth steam hauled, we pass the famous Brief Encounter cafebefore continuing to Arnside, crossing the Kent Viaduct to Grange-over-Sands. Our journey then continues over the Leven Viaduct through Ulverston and Dalton, before travelling via Kirkby-in-Furness and Millom along the spectacular Cumbrian Coast to Ravenglass. At Ravenglass, we have arranged a private charter on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. Alternatively, for those who prefer, there is an optional excursion to visit Muncaster Castle. After enjoying our time at Ravenglass, we depart steam hauled, chimney first, back to Carnforth where our diesel locomotive will once again take over and haul our train back to Crewe. At Millom, we head inland and follow the sweeping estuary through Foxfield and Kirkby in Furness. Once again we curve along the edge of the bay through to Grange-over-Sands. There are more views across Morecambe Bay as we cross the lengthy Kent Viaduct at Arnside and approach Carnforth. Here, we shall say farewell to our gallant steam locomotive and our diesel will take over for our run back to Crewe. We recreate one of the great holiday trains of the golden age of railway travel for a steam hauled journey on our luxury train through Somerset and around the beautiful Devon coast with time available to discover the many charms of the pretty 'English Riviera' resort of Dartmouth.   • Imberbus 2026 Saturday 15 August 2026 There are only a few days each year on which the road through Imber is open to the public and we are only able to run Imberbus on one of those dates. Therefore in 2026 the Imberbus service will only run on Saturday 15th August 2026 when several London Transport Routemaster buses (plus a few newer ones) will be the only vehicles allowed to travel through to Imber village and on to other parts of Salisbury Plain. As in previous years, these buses will start from outside Warminster Rail Station and will operate as an ordinary bus service, so it is not possible to reserve seats or book tickets in advance - just turn up on the day and pay the conductor on the bus or purchase a ticket from one of our ticket desk outside the station. Local residents will also be able to to travel to Imber from Chitterne, Tilshead and the Lavingtons by paying the conductor in cash on the bus. Further information on what we have planned for our 2026 event will be published on this website during the summer, but the format is likely to be similar to last year, details of which can be found on our Imberbus 2025 web page.

Picking up at stations in Cheshire, you have the rare opportunity of a direct train to the historic town, famed as the home of the great William Shakespear. This day-trip journey from stations in Cheshire to Stratford-upon-Avon, will take a circular route via the West Midlands, returning via Hereford and the Marches route. You will have just over 3 hours to enjoy Stratford before the special train returns north to your local station.   • The Ancient Kingdom Saturday 22nd August 2026 Taking full advantage of a long midsummer day we venture north to the Kingdom of Northumbria. We have three very different options for you to choose from - the wonderful Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the delightfully quaint Heatherslaw Light Railway or a visit to picturesque Alnwick. Our journey takes us through York, past Durham Castle and Cathedral and we glimpse Antony Gormley's extraordinary 'Angel of the North' as we approach Newcastle. After pausing at Alnmouth we reach Berwick-upon-Tweed, the border town still redolent of centuries of conflict between the English and the Scots. Those who choose to remain in Berwick will have around three and a half hours to explore, or choose from one of the three off train options below! OFF TRAIN OPTION - ALNWICK AT LEISURE The town of Alnwick dates back to AD600 and retains much of its original character. Alnwick Castle, the second largest inhabited castle after Windsor, is popular with film makers; Blackadder, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Harry Potter were all made here. Alnwick Garden is a complex of formal gardens, featuring various themed plantings designed around a central water cascade. It is the most ambitious garden created in the UK post war. The old Alnwick station is now home to Barter Books, one of England's largest and most famous secondhand bookshops. This option includes a brief coach transfer between Alnmouth Station and Alnwick. Because there is such a choice of things to do we have not included any admission charges. You will have around four hours to explore. OFF TRAIN OPTION - THE HOLY ISLAND OF LINDISFARNE Perched tantalisingly just off the Northumberland coast and cut off by the tide twice a day, Holy Island and its Priory are considered one of the holiest sites in Britain. We leave the train at Alnmouth where coaches will be waiting for the journey to Lindisfarne which includes the narrow causeway that connects the island with the mainland. We can assure potential participants that we have checked the tide tables! We have some three hours here, time to take a walk to the castle or just explore this extraordinary place. Don't forget to purchase a bottle of the local produce, Lindisfarne Mead. OFF TRAIN OPTION - THE HEATHERSLAW LIGHT RAILWAY One of England's lesser known minor railways, this fifteen inch gauge line runs for two miles, following the River Till through an area rich in wildlife, set between the Cheviot Hills and the border with Scotland. Coaches meet the train at Berwick for the twelve mile run to the Heatherslaw Light Railway where we will enjoy a break of about three hours. Your supplement for this option includes coach transfers and a return journey on the railway. First Class Dining includes The Great British Breakfast and a four course dinner, served at your seat by The Railway Diners. First Class Dining is not available from, or back to Doncaster due to time constraints. A well stocked buffet car serving a range of snacks and drinks will be available for those travelling in First Class Non Dining and Standard Class.   • The Blackpool Steam Express Saturday 22 August 2026 Join us on this special train to the Fylde Coast and the vibrant seaside resort of Blackpool. We have a high speed journey down the West Coast Main Line, hauled by a blue Class 86 electric locomotive as far as Crewe. Here, we will attach our steam locomotive for a direct run via Preston to Blackpool. We return from Blackpool steam hauled to Preston, and then via Manchester back as far as Crewe, and then onwards by electric traction to London Euston. We leave London Euston with electric traction and speed north along the West Coast Main Line (WCML). We stop to pick up passengers at Milton Keynes, Rugby (where passengers from Northampton join by service train), Nuneaton and Crewe, where we change motive power to a steam locomotive chosen from the Carnforth based pool. We continue north along the WCML through Warrington Bank Quay and on to Preston. From Preston, we will join the line to Blackpool North, recently electrified to serve local trains and also to allow through trains to and from London. We will head westwards across The Fylde and pass through Kirkham, the junction for the Blackpool South branch. We will take the Blackpool North line and pass through Poulton-le-Fylde station, where there should be by now views of the famous 518ft tall tower at Blackpool. Time will be available to visit the town and some of its attractions, including the Tower, the Winter Gardens, Madame Tussauds, the three piers or perhaps take a vintage tram ride along the sea front. Shops are also nearby along with many restaurants and pubs to cater for all tastes. After a refreshing break, we will return from Blackpool North through Preston to Wigan North Western, where we will take a diversion away from the WCML to run via Hindley and Eccles towards Manchester. We pass through Manchester Piccadilly station and then take the line through Styal at Slade Lane Jct towards Wilmslow and then on to Crewe to set down passengers. At Crewe, we say goodbye to our steam locomotive before continuing to London with our blue electric locomotive, stopping as outward to set down passengers.   • The Thistle and Dragon Saturday 22 August 2026 Step aboard our special train, running exclusively on Saturday 22nd August, for a memorable day excursion to the historic city of Chester and the seaside town of Llandudno. This train features a number of firsts for locomotive fans, along with locomotives returning to former stamping grounds. Following on from the sucess of our first Leven start we are delighted to offer this again. Starting in Leven we head south with convenient pick-ups at Kirkcaldy, Inverkeithing, Edinburgh, Lockerbie and Carlisle, it's easy to step aboard and let the adventure begin. Travel together in beautifully restored British Rail Mk1 carriages, where spacious seating and large windows make it easy to relax and enjoy the views. Our train is hauled south by British Rail Class 40 D213 (40013) 'Andania', a first visit for this class of locomotive to Leven. On our return at Chester we see a change of traction as our Class 40 is replaced by Locomotive Services Limited beautifully restored Class 45, 45118 'The Royal Artilleryman'. This locomotive will also be breaking new ground as it heads north to back to Leven. On board, there's something for everyone. Enjoy the comfort of at-seat dining with a hearty breakfast on the outward journey and a delicious three-course evening dinner on the way home. Prefer something more casual? Our buffet car offers hot and cold drinks, morning rolls and plenty of snacks to keep little travellers smiling throughout the day. Our journey then takes us to Inverkeithing, a convenient boarding location with a large free car park and easy access from the M90. Soon after, we cross the magnificent Forth Bridge ? a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Scotland's most recognisable landmarks. This iconic Victorian engineering masterpiece is always a highlight, offering breathtaking views across the Firth of Forth and an unforgettable sense of history. Our next pick-up is at Edinburgh Waverley railway station, located in the heart of the capital, with excellent public transport connections for our guests. After a pick up at Lockerbie, we then arrive into the Border City of Carlisle to welcome our last guests on board our special train. We then head south along the West Coast Main Line, where high speed running is guaranteed to make the locomotive work hard. Arriving in the historic city of Chester, we bid farewell to some of our guests. Our train then continues towards the beautiful seaside town of Llandudno. Chester and Llandudno - Free Time We hope to be able to provide approximately 4 hours of free time in Chester, allowing plenty time to experience everything that Chester has to offer. For those who choose to stay on board for Llandudno, we hope to have 2 hours of free time allowing adequate time to wander down to the sea front. Return Journey Our return journey retraces our route north back to Leven. At Chester on the return the Class 40 locomotive will be replaced by a Class 45 locomotive.   • The Waverley Sunday 23 August 2026 This summer series of steam hauled trains provides an opportunity for passengers from York, Leeds and the Aire Valley to travel over the spectacular Settle & Carlisle Railway, probably the most famous railway route in Britain. These day trips revive the nostalgic former days of steam when travel by train through magnificent scenery was an experience to savour. Our steam hauled train leaves York, hauled by a steam locomotive from the Carnforth pool and heads for Church Fenton where we take the direct route to Leeds. We stop to pick up more passengers at Leeds, Keighley, and Skipton. There will be a stop at Hellifield for our steam locomotive to take on water before we join the famous Settle & Carlisle Railway at Settle Junction. Here begins one of the most arduous climbs on Britain's railway network, a total of 15 miles mainly at a gradient of 1 in 100. Once through Settle station, there are magnificent views across the Fells to the Pennine Three Peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. We cross the breathtaking Ribblehead Viaduct, high above the valley floor, and enter Blea Moor Tunnel. We pass through Dent Dale and the highest open station in England at Dent, travelling through tunnels and crossing valleys on numerous lofty viaducts, as we make the final ascent to Ais Gill Summit (1,169 feet). We travel high above the valley at Mallerstang and then drop down through Kirkby Stephen and Appleby, to Lazenby where our locomotive takes on water. We continue to Carlisle and passengers will have about two hours to explore the Border City, possibly visiting the castle, cathedral, Tullie House Museum or the Lanes Shopping Centre. ?Our train leaves Carlisle for the return journey late afternoon and climbs almost continuously for just under 50 miles back up to Ais Gill summit. We stop, en route, at Appleby for our steam locomotive to take on water. We continue to stops at Skipton, Keighley, Leeds, and York, to set down passengers. Crossing the Cheshire Plain and through historic Shrewsbury we join the Welsh Marches line and at Church Stretton there are outstanding views of the Long Mynd, continuing past magnificent Stokesay Castle and the historic towns of Ludlow and Hereford we enter South Wales and the county of Monmouthshire with superb views of the Brecon Beacons as the black mountains tower over the train. At Newport we cross the river Usk, continuing to Cardiff for an afternoon break.   • The Lakelander Saturday 29 August 2026 Departing from Leicester, Narborough, Hinckley, Nuneaton, Tamworth, Lichfield Trent Valley, Rugeley Trent Valley, Stafford, Crewe, Preston Travelling through the county town of Lancaster our steam locomotive works hard to climb the severe gradients of Grayrigg and Shap Summit with splendid views over the Cumbrian Fells before we descend to Penrith, and head for Carlisle. There will be around two hours available to explore this ancient border city with its castle, cathedral, Tullie House Museum, and shopping centre. Our return journey takes the scenic coastal route around the Cumbrian Coast running along the shoreline through Workington with spectacular cliff edge views as we journey south and the Isle of Man visible across the Irish Sea. We run close to the shoreline passing Sellafield, and Ravenglass. After Ulverston, we curve along the edge of Morecambe Bay through Grange-over-Sands. There are views across the bay as we cross the lengthy Kent Viaduct at Arnside and approach Carnforth and a fast run homeward along the west coast main line.   • The Royal Duchy Sunday 30 August 2026 These ever-popular summer day trips by steam train run from Bristol Temple Meads, Yatton and Taunton to Devon & Cornwall. The route includes travelling along the internationally famous sea wall at Dawlish, crossing Brunel's famous Saltash Bridge into Cornwall, and some of the most varied and exciting scenery in the country. Passengers can choose to spend time in Plymouth or travel on to Par, where buses are provided for visits to Fowey or Charlestown. Our train leaves Bristol Temple Meads steam hauled and stops to pick up further passengers at Yatton and Taunton. Almost immediately on departure from Taunton, our steam locomotive will be working hard as it tackles the climb to Whiteball Summit. We stop at Exeter St. David's station for our locomotive to take on water and for more passengers to join the train. ?We leave Exeter and follow the Exe Estuary to the seaside. We then travel along the famous sea wall between Dawlish and Teignmouth, an experience not to be missed. After Newton Abbot, our steam locomotive will demonstrate her real strength as she powers up some of the steepest main line gradients in the country. First there is the difficult climb to the summit at Dainton Tunnel, followed by a dramatic drop down to Totnes, then an equally difficult climb up Rattery Bank before descending to Plymouth. Passengers have the option to alight at Plymouth or remain on the train to Par. There will be over five hours free time to explore the historic maritime city of Plymouth which includes the Hoe, the ancient Barbican and seafront areas, and the National Marine Aquarium. We leave Plymouth, steam hauled, and cross the river Tamar on Brunel's masterpiece, the Royal Albert Bridge, to enter Cornwall. Our train continues through the magnificent Cornish countryside to Par, where there will be a break of more than three hours. Buses will take passengers from Par, at no extra charge, to visit either the picturesque seaside town of Fowey or the harbour village of Charlestown. The latter is a working port and home to the Shipwreck, Rescue & Heritage Centre. Our locomotive will turn and service at St Blazey's before we embark on our return journey. We leave Par steam hauled by our locomotive and stop at Plymouth to pick up those passengers who chose to alight there. Our train then returns to Bristol, stopping to set down passengers at Exeter, Taunton and Yatton enroute. Available Classes Premier Dining Premier Dining includes a full English breakfast and four course dinner freshly prepared on board and silver served at your seat. First Class First Class includes morning tea or coffee with a breakfast roll and a muffin and an afternoon service of tea or coffee with a savoury of the day followed by scone with butter and jam. We'll also be running some freight services between Llanuwchllyn and Llangower using slate wagons from our extensive historic collection. At Llangower, we will be undertaking a special shunting manoeuvre to allow two passengers trains to pass while the freight is also at the station.
